We had a wonderful stay here, ideal location, attentive staff, clean rooms, lovely pool and breakfast buffet. Would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Key West. Melissa together with her trainee were informative on our arrival.

We just returned from a week’s stay at Cypress House and I can’t say enough good things about it.  The room was so clean and comfortable… high ceilings and ample space made us feel like we were at home, not in a hotel.   The staff goes above and beyond to accommodate your needs.  The other guests were a pleasure to chat with over the ‘Liming’ hour by the pool each evening.  The location is perfect, close enough to the action, but also far enough that you feel like you truly escaped the craziness that is Key West.

I’d recommend this hotel to any of my friends wanting to visit the island.

My wife and I stayed at the Cypress House May 27-June 2, 2015 and could not have been more pleased with the accommodations or location.  The people on the desk that we dealt with most were Scott and Melissa. Scott was the one who checked us in on May 27 and showed us around.  They were both super helpful, courteous  and always asking how things were going.  They were our  “go to” people for information on restaurants and what I call “infrastructure support facilities” (i.e. drug stores, supermarkets, laundry facilities).

The room we stayed in the Main House was clean, comfortable and in amazing condition, considering the historic age of the building.  The maid staff persons were all super, to the point that we left them a tip of $40.00 for their efforts. The breakfasts were good, as there was always a hot entrée item, and it varied from day to day.  What we really enjoyed was the “Liming” ritual, beginning every day at 4:30 with a food item and a matching mixed drink.  We had empenadas (ssp??), pulled pork sandwiches, conch fritters and, on our last evening there, a fantastic seafood dip.  All of it was excellent, relaxing and put us in the mood for “Where should we have dinner tonight?”  Speaking of dinner, we had some guidebook suggestions, but Scott steered us to Alonzo’s (part of the A & B Lobster/Alonzo’s combo) our first night.  His instructions to go left out the office door, take the first left (Elizabeth St) to the end of Elizabeth St, then the walkway around the right side of  the Conch Republic Seafood Company, were far better than our trying to follow our previously printed- off Google map, which would have made us loop around to Front Street (off Duval) then to the end of Front Street.  Thanks, Scott, for saving us several steps!  As it turns out, Alonzo’s was our favorite restaurant; we ate dinner there 3 times during our stay, all at the bar, where we met a lot of interesting people.  Other restaurants were Bagatelle, Half Shell Oyster House, Red Fish/Blue Fish, Southernmost Beach Café and, what has to be an institution in Key West – The Hog’s Breath Saloon.  All of these are in easy walking distance of the Cypress House, with the exception of the Southernmost Beach Café.  However, my wife and I took a Friendly cab down there – Scott got us the phone number – and it was $7.85 one way (metered, the cab company had quoted us about 8.00).  We also checked a pedi-cab fare, but the guy on the phone wanted 20.00).  My wife and I are retirees, but we decided to see if we could walk back to the hotel, and we did without any real difficulty.  But for someone who may not be able to walk that distance, the 8.00 (about) one-way cab fare is more than reasonable.  Also, Friendly Cab was very prompt and got the cab for us when they said they would).  We also took them back to the airport for our return home – the fare was 9.00 per person, fixed rate (which is what we also paid with another cab company when we came in).

Let me just say a couple of  things about renting a car – (1) you really don’t need one if you stay at the Cypress House and intend to stay basically in Key West (2) parking is limited in the area, you have to pay for it, so it can be problematical.  If you want to be more mobile than walking, the Cypress House will arrange to have bicycles delivered to you at the Inn;  you don’t have to go out and get them on your own; or return them on your own.  Fantastic!

Infrastructure support:  the Cypress House is basically 1 1/2 blocks off Duval Street – the main restaurant/bar street in town. If you turn right on Duval and go down a couple of blocks, on the left, is a CVS drugstore with food items (if you need them); as well as the usual drug store commodities.  If you turn left onto Duval and go up to Fleming (about 2 blocks) there is a 24 hour CVS store; neither one has a pharmacy, but if you go one block further south on Duval after passing the 2nd CVS  store, there is a Walgreen’s with a pharmacy.  Also, for those of you who miss your out-of-town newspaper (the Wall St. Journal, New York Times, USA Today, etc.), the Walgreen’s store has them, as does a full service supermarket called Fausto’s on Fleming Street (near the corner with Simonton Street, which is the cross street with Caroline, where the Cypress House is located).  And, for those of you who just CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT YOUR STARBUCKS,  there is one on the corner of Duval and Fleming, in the La Concha hotel (outside entry on the corner of Duval and Fleming) about 2 blocks from the Cypress House.

Finally, while there are no guest laundry facilities at the Cypress House, future guests may be interested to know there is a commercial laundramat located 2 blocks from the Cypress House.  Again, Scott pointed me to this establishment.  You go out the front door of the office, turn left, go down to Elizabeth Street and turn RIGHT, and go down to the corner of Elizabeth and Eaton.  They have 2 machines, the larger one (Continental) takes 18 quarters per load, the smaller one (Visionex) takes 12 quarters per load.  Soap is 1.25 from the dispenser, the driers give you a solid 5 minutes per quarter.  The Laundromat is open 7 days a week from 7:30 till 10:00 PM; and they have drop off service, where they will do you laundry for 8:00 per load (dropped off between 7:30 AM and 9:00 PM Monday thru Saturday; 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Sunday’s).  They also will pick it up from your location (within reason) for 9.00 a load.  The earlier you drop off or have picked-up, the more likely you are to get same day service;  it really depends on how many loads are dropped off/picked up.  Phone number of the Laundromat to check with them is (305) 294-2894.  Again, they are a scant two blocks from the Cypress House hotel.

In short, you could NOT have a better hotel/base of operations for anything you want to do in Old Town than the Cypress House hotel.  This was our first trip to Key West and my wife and I could not be happier with the accommodations at the Cypress House and the convenience of location for everything we wanted to do.  Our philosophy when we go to a vacation spot like Key West is not to schedule every minute of every day, but simply to kick back, relax and decide what we want to do on a day-to-day basis.  This time of the year – basically the beginning of the off-season – may have been more conductive to us and our philosophy, since the streets were not overly jammed with people.

Regardless, we had an absolutely marvelous time and will look forward to a return at some future date and another stay at the Cypress House.  Thank you and keep up the good work, Scott, Melissa and all the rest of the crew at Cypress House!

Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay during my visit to Key West.

Great staff, beautiful room, and the complimentary breakfast and happy hour made it even better..

I also want to add, that the rescue cat, Jane, was the sweetest little cat and her being there showed how caring the staff is and I really appreciated that.

My sister recommended the Cypress House to me and I was not disappointed. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The pool area was perfect and looked forward to the happy hour each day! The location could not have been better as it is a short walk to everything that Duval street has to offer. I have stayed at some of the larger resorts in Key West in the past and I will never go back to them again!

We loved our two night stay at Cypress House, from the arrangement of the late night check in with the key lock, to the yummy breakfast range, friendly and helpful staff, Chris in particular, and afternoon cocktail and snack which was an unexpected extra. The room in a separate house just up the road from the main reception, was beautiful, very spacious and extremely comfortable, and the welcome note and prosecco left for us, as we’d mentioned we were there as part of our honeymoon, made us feel very welcome. The leather corner sofa and massive bed with 6 – yes 6! – pillows were so comfy.

Chris arranged bike hire for us which was very quick and simple and a great way to see the island, and he also recommended some bars and restaurants. The hotel is located very close to the busy Duval Street, but far enough away so you don’t hear any noise. We would highly recommend Cypress House to friends and family visiting the area.

Every time we come to Key West, we stay at a Historic Key West Inns hotel. It was the first time we stayed at the Cypress House though, and it definitely didn’t disappoint!

Everyone was so pleasant from check-in right through check-out. Breakfast was amazing every morning and the pool was perfect. We stayed in a king room, and it was extremely spacious. We really couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Location was perfect — just a block off of Duval on the north side of the island. There were plenty of great restaurants and shops within walking distance.

You guys have a repeat customer for life here! Thanks again!

The Cypress House Hotel was one of the best experiences I have had in Key West.  The staff was courteous and efficient, always willing to help.  The check in and check out process was flawless.  We really enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts and the afternoon cocktails & appetizers were terrific.  It was great to come back from a hot afternoon on the town to enjoy a cool cocktail by the pool.  Our room was clean and nicely appointed.  I requested restaurant recommendations from the front desk and we thoroughly enjoyed the recommendation.  Mangia Mangia is a great Italian restaurant!  We will definitely recommend the Cypress House Hotel to all of our friends.

This was our (I and my girlfriend’s) 3rd time at the Cypress House and as usual it never disappoints.
I want to thank Melissa and Chris for going way beyond in their job duties to make our stay as pleasant as it could have been.

From waking up each day to a full breakfast and coffee to coming back for Liming hour to enjoy drinks and appetizers by the pool, it just doesn’t get better than this folks.

Quiet, clean and nicely decorated rooms make the time spent in them relaxing and rejuvenating for the next day of your vacation.

Only a block from Duval on Caroline, it puts you in the center of the action that is Downtown Key West.

Honestly it should be your only choice to stay in Key West.
This is our new home away from home and we can’t wait to come back towards the end of the summer.

Thank you to all the staff for running the finest establishment in Key West.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cypress House. Check in was easy. I didn’t note his name, but the gentleman was very friendly and answered the numerous questions we had as first time visitors to Key West.
The room was spacious and clean. There was no ceiling fan but the window air conditioner kept the room temperature cool and comfortable.
The Cypress House location is perfect, just two blocks from Duval – close enough to walk but far enough away that we never heard any street noise at night despite being in the ground floor corner room nearest the street. The shades in the room were also great at keeping out the sunlight when we weren’t quite ready to “rise and shine”.
The pool was great and never crowded. We rented an electric “car” (golf cart) during our stay and it needed to be plugged in at night – the hotel even had a spot for us to park it & plug it in. Our entire experience was great, and we look forward to using Historic Key West Inns hotels again in the future!
