We stayed here is June. We could not get a room with two beds or one king at the Key Lime, our first choice. The Merlin Inn, their sister hotel, was a good value since we got a reserved parking space. The room was very nice, the bed excellent, and overall it was more than satisfactory. Wish the small pool was more refreshing since the weather was hot and muggy. Don’t know if the water was heated or just very warm due to the size of the pool. Would we come back, yes!

Thank you for a wonderful stay, we were visiting for work and were able to have a little fun as well. We frequent the Keys and will definitely keep your hotel on the list for future travels. The staff, grounds, and rooms were all pleasant to deal with and made us feel at home away from home.

The two recommendations I would have for the Merlin Guesthouse would be to offer a cover option for the skylight in the rooms, we stayed up pretty late one night working and that 6:30am beam of sunlight can be uncomfortable while in bed, as well as the mattresses could use an upgrade.

Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you soon !!

From check-in to check-out I have nothing but good things to say. Clean, every one extremely nice and I will definitely be back. And I would recommend this to anyone.

Hi! My partner and I came to Florida from Switzerland, and visited Key West as part of our trip. We were looking online for a hotel to stay in Key West, and weren’t too happy with the choices that were listed at first.

And then we found Merlin Guesthouse!

The pictures online looked really warm and inviting, and it made the hotel stand out more compared to the others that were listed in our search. We booked it, and looked forward to arriving at Merlin Guesthouse. As we arrived, we were more than surprised, and in a very positive way! The hotel was exactly how it was shown in the pictures and even more! The reception hidden away in a little office amongst the trees and plants,  super cute! The wooden houses kept upright from back in the days, gave it a”homey” feel. Not only on the outside of the building, but also inside the room we had wooden flooring. The room was clean and very welcoming made up. I would have jumped into bed right away because I was so tired, but instead I jumped into the pool because it was so HOT!  Breakfast was outside, poolside.

The location of the guesthouse is also perfect: Close to Duval Street where all the shops and bars are, and close to tourist attractions that are all in walking distance.  I mean almost all of west Key West is within walking distance, and the hotel is located perfectly, more or less, in the middle.

I can only recommend coming to Merlin Guesthouse. Kenneth, who greeted us at reception, made our stay relaxing and enjoyable from beginning to end. We even extended one more night! So, if you are in Key West, come stay at the Merlin! Maybe you’ll bump into Kenneth, or maybe even into Jordan, the hotel cat! :)

Loved our one night stay at Merlin Guesthouse. Impressed by the cleanliness and the friendly family atmosphere at the breakfast area by the garden pool. The owner (george the cat) was the crowning touch.

See you again,

Klaus

We recently stayed at the Merlin Guesthouse for a girls weekend.  We stayed in the 1BR cottage, which was the perfect size for 4 ladies – it was well equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave, and a keurig machine – they included plates, cups, silverware, paper towels, dish soap, k cups(for the coffee machine) – you name it they covered it!  The poolside continental breakfast was a perfect start to the day.  The staff was very helpful, specifically Linda upon checkin and throughout the stay.  She even went the extra step to email me when someone in the group left clothes in the closet, and even provided me with a way to ship back if needed.  Overall this was the perfect location (walking distance to everything!).  We had a recommendation to go to Santiago’s Bodega, however decided to stop on the walk at Firefly and were not disappointed! Amazing southern food!  Definitely enjoyed our stay and have already started making plans to come back and stay again at the Merlin!  Thanks again for an amazing experience!  Can’t wait to visit again soon!

I have stayed at the Merlin several times now and it is by far the best bang for your buck and my personal favorite of the Key West-y hotels. The rooms are updated and clean with tropical touches and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. The pool area is quaint and relaxing, and the location is perfect, one block off Duval, so not too noisy and literally in the middle of Old Town so it’s a 5-10 min walk to everywhere you’d want to go. If you are looking for an authentic, charming Key West hotel then the Merlin will not disappoint you.

Accommodations at Merlin Guesthouse could not have been better.  We would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to enjoy a quiet alternative to the run-of-mill hotel stays.  We stayed in a 2-room guest cottage with private patio, coffee bar, nice seating area and large bathroom.  The housekeeping staff kept it spotless.  A very nice breakfast is available near poolside.  The splash pool is a great place to meet other travelers.  Kenneth was most helpful.  The tours of Truman’s Little White House, Fort Jefferson, and Hemingway’s House should be on your list of things to do.  We dined at Seven Fish, Kelly’s, and Rooftop.  All were outstanding.

I admit I’m biased: I’ve stayed at The Merlin Guesthouse since 1988 and have stayed there almost exclusively since 1992. (The other times were Key Lime Inn and Lighthouse Court, also HKWI properties.) Just so you know where I’m coming from, I don’t stay at an inn because it has satin sheets or HBO in the room. I’m not there to hang out at the hotel. I want a comfortable bed and pleasant amenities. If you want 5-star, white glove service, Key West, for all is casual appeal, has plenty of those choices. At the Merlin you will find pleasant, rustic, comfortable B&B-style accommodation and charm. More important, a staff who remembers you and is universally approachable and friendly. You’ll leave feeling like part of the family, and indeed you will be. (If you’re a cat person, be sure to say hi to Jordan. He lives on the property, and he’s part of the family too.) There are a wide variety of rooms, from small and simple (the porch rooms, for example) to some truly lovely suites. The pool has thoughtful touches: baskets with paperbacks and sunscreen, and in the afternoon, iced tea is set out in the breakfast area. Now for the negatives, just so you know this isn’t a total sell job (and hey, family members can critique each other honestly, right?): 1) If you’re a light sleeper, avoid the front porch rooms. Mopeds on Simonton buzz by at all hours. There are identical or similar rooms on the back porch. But, if you plan on stumbling home drunk (and why not, it’s Key West) and wild horses couldn’t roust you, no worries on the front porch side!) 2) Some people criticize the pool, and I certainly remember when it was bigger. It’s not exactly a lap pool; it’s more of a very large hot tub (there is a water jet timer) but again, in this place and setting, maybe you can eschew your inner Michael Phelps/Summer Sanders for a bit and just chill in the bubbles or the still, serene water. 3) The mattress in Room 22 is not up to the usual HKWI standard. It’s slightly caved in the middle and slants to one side. However if there are any other imperfections here, I can’t think of any, and I’ve been looking for 20 years, several times a year. (I live 200 miles north. Don’t hate.). I hope this is helpful to you. Cheers.

What more can I say!  I was a little concerned that because it was just myself and my 17 year old daughter traveling we might feel a little awkward because it seemed like a couples place.  Not so at all, it’s an anybody who’s there to have a great time kind of place!  Lovely rooms, lovely garden, lovely pool, and lovely breakfast’s in the garden!  The staff in the office will go out of their way to make sure you stay is comfortable and pleasant!  We plan to return as soon as we can!
