Merlin Guesthouse is very well located in old Key West; close to everything but quiet enough to have some rest in the beautiful garden. Our room was large and very well appointed, with a large balcony, large bathroom (former historic bedroom?) and view over the garden and whirlpool. The garden serves as very good setting for the breakfast (very good)/open air lounge area and the whirlpool. The pool itself is a big attraction; cool, refreshing and relaxing. Also a great place to socialize. Staff was very helpful and competent. All in all, a very good place to stay.

I would highly recommend staying at the beautiful Merlin Guesthouse hotel. My friend and I decided last minute to visit key west and after an exhausting day of traveling, we were welcomed on arrival with pleasant smiles and a cozy, clean room..what else could you ask for? The pool was amazing, with suncream and towels offered. Very small walk to the main Duval street and to all attractions within key west. Thanks to all the staff for an amazing time, we will be back very soon.

My girlfriend and I live in Ft. Lauderdale and we were looking for a weekend adventure and get-away in Key West. Since it was just the two of us and we wanted to be close to the action, we were hoping to find a little place near the historic area of Key West so that we could easily get around on foot during the day & night.

After browsing online for a couple of nights, we found that the Merlin Guesthouse still had vacancy. With a reasonable rate compared to other options, an excellent central location, and images of a very clean and well maintained property, we decided to book a smaller, Queen Economy room.

Before booking, we had read that parking could be a little tricky, but to be quite honest, I didn’t expect parking to exactly be plentiful on 4.2 sq. mi. Key West. Since we arrived around 10pm on a Friday night, we did need to look a little harder for parking, but we found safe (read: non-towing!) parking within walking distance on nearby Truman Ave (just past the Duffy’s).

Our room was small but not cramped, and was all a young couple needed for a weekend getaway. It was very well appointed and well maintained. The dark, natural wood floors were beautiful and the exposed ceiling beams provided charm. The four post bed was also a nice touch. Our queen economy room was one on the side “deck” facing the street, but noise didn’t seem to be an issue at all. If anything, the friendly property cat would typically welcome us on the deck.

The rest of the property looked very cozy and quaint. While the property is in the middle of the action, management does a great job of fencing and maintaining landscaping that provides plenty of privacy within the sanctuary that is the courtyard. Lush vegetation (I’m a big fan) provided a very tropical feel while the small pool and the surrounding deck chairs and a nearby hammock were very inviting. I regret that we weren’t able to truly enjoy this aspect of the property – since we were only in town Friday night to Sunday afternoon and, with a trip to Dry Tortugas on Saturday, we were always on the go!

The friendly lady at the front desk was very helpful and cheery when we checked in and checked out, unfortunately I didn’t catch her name. I feel that she could turn around anybody’s day just by talking to them for a few minutes. Housekeeping did a great job of keeping the room clean while being respectful of our belongings inside.

As for local attractions – I highly recommend the trip to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. Personally I’m always a fan of any adventure, big or small, and Fort Jefferson is a picturesque gem off of the beaten path. As for a restaurant – I feel that every visitor in Key West needs to have brunch @ Blue Heaven. If you’re a big breakfast person like me and you don’t make it, you’re not fully experiencing Key West!

I highly recommend the Merlin Guesthouse to anyone looking for a clean, warm, cozy place to stay while enjoying a get away in Key West. Whenever I visit KW again with my girlfriend, we will try to stay here again! Thanks for the great stay!

We had never stayed at this hotel (and I had never been to Key West) and we were delighted with our choice. The location was fabulous and allowed us to quickly get to Duval Street while having incredible privacy and relaxing environment at night.

The room was clean, gorgeous, spacious, and just what we needed. The people were accommodating and very friendly and the continental breakfast was divine.

We will definitely be coming back to Key West and Merlin Guesthouse!

This was our second time staying at the Merlin Guesthouse, July 23rd through 26th. We enjoyed it so much we came back. We live in Florida but visit the Keys every year to enjoy the laid back atmosphere. Check in and check out are very quick and the staff is always personable. We enjoyed talking with Linda about the property and the Key West lifestyle. Our room was very clean, which is a big reason why we came back. It was comfortable and charming with an old key west touch. Stayed with another couple to celebrate birthdays, hotel has a great central location to both ends of Duval street making it easy to walk everywhere and take in the sights! After a long day of shopping, swimming, fishing, or renting jet skis we were able to come back to clean fresh towels in our room.  I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Key West.

We stayed at Merlin Guesthouse for one night on a quick trip to Key West at the end of our vacation. We had originally booked a one-bedroom cottage for 2 couples, but decided at the last minute to see if 2 queen rooms were available. The wonderful managers were happy to accommodate our request and made our rooms available quickly.

The economy queen rooms were quite small, but beautifully decorated. The only thing that would have been a nice addition in the room is a small refrigerator, but otherwise the room was fine for a short stay. The hotel is centrally located just a block or two from Duval Street, which was wonderful as both sunset at Mallory Square and Happy Hour at Southernmost Beach Cafe are usually on our agenda while in Key West!

The continental breakfast was lovely.  The bagels and orange juice were delicious and extremely fresh. The staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.  All in all it was a lovely stay for a great price and we hope to stay at Merlin Guesthouse (or one of their other properties) on our next visit to Key West.

Highly recommend!

My husband and I visit Key West for our wedding anniversary every summer- this summer marked 9 years. On our third visit to Key West we stayed at the Merlin Guest House and we have stayed there every summer since. My husband books on-line and we have never had an issue. The only bad part about checking out is that it means that we have to leave. We love the rooms- they are always clean and ready for us when we arrive. All of the staff from the person who checks us in to the grounds keepers and cleaning staff are always pleasant, knowledgeable, willing to share a smile or answer a question-always. The staff have always helped in any way they could to help us to have the most pleasureable experience possible. Anytime we hear of someone taking a trip to Key West we suggest they stay at the Merlin Guest House. I really wish that I had noted the name of the staff on duty while we were there because all of them were exceptional.

Some of our favorite places to visit while in Key West are the dessert restaurant Better Than Sex, Conch Republic, Pinchers, Mallory Square and this year we took the Fury Jet Ski Tour and had a wonderful time.

All in all as long as the staff at your hotel continue to do what they have been doing for the past nine summers I do not have any plans to ever stay anyplace else. :)

Sincerely,

Christina

We had a wonderful time at the Merlin Guesthouse. At first I was worried with the parking, but was able to park very easily on the side street. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We really appreciated the suggestion to go to Zachary Taylor State Park. That was the highlight of our trip. We spent our whole day there, eating lunch at the picnic tables, snorkeling, and enjoying the warm water. The cottage was very clean and the daily housekeeping was appreciated. We will definitely stay here again.
