The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The location was perfect for walking to the best of Key West and just off the main drag for a bit more privacy.  Parking was a challenge but when I found a good spot I didn’t need to move until we left.  A great nearby place for breakfast or lunch was Blue Heaven (great food and atmosphere). — I’d love to have a chance to come back someday.

We stayed at the Merlin Guesthouse for one night in April 2014. It was very nice, clean, and had a nice breakfast out by the pool. The staff was very helpful. The next time we stay there, we will have to add a couple extra nights. The B & B was close to every thing.

Stayed in a neat little 2-story, 2-bdrm loft with a spiral staircase. Plenty of private outside seating and right near all the fun.  Great accommodations. My friend accidentally left his Kindle behind and they called to let us know it was waiting to be picked up.

My husband and I and our 2 children aged 15 and 12  stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage at the Merlin Guesthouse for 2 nights in April 2014. I had previously stayed here 18 years ago with a friend and wanted to come back with my family. It is a lovely place of traditional Key West charm in a quiet setting but very close to the centre of Key West. Yes, the outside of the buildings are historic but this adds to its appeal; inside the cottage was modern and clean.

The only downside was a few resident mosquitoes which resulted in some itchy bites but we were unprepared with repellent.

We had a slight hiccup in that the spare key we were given was for the wrong cottage, which we discovered after getting back from an evening out at 11:30pm. We needed to call the night security guard and he answered straight away and met us immediately at the cottage to let us in.

The staff at the Merlin were very helpful and when we asked about hiring bicycles brought us their folder of information and suggested a few places to try. We were able to keep our cycles at the cottage and spent a wonderful day cycling around Key West. The highlight for me was Earnest Hemingway’s house but then I am slightly obsessed with him!

We had a wonderful meal at Louie’s Backyard by the ocean, highly recommended.

The breakfasts at the Merlin were lovely, fresh juice, coffee, breads, pastries and blueberry muffins served by the pool.

We absolutely adored Key West and would definitely stay at the Merlin again. If you want to experience true Key West charm then I would highly recommend the Merlin.

I took a chance and booked our stay at Merlin Guesthouse from a website only. Our dates were available (we stayed 5 nights in April) and the rates were do-able. My husband and I were visiting Key West so that I could complete my scuba certification, and he had never visited the Keys. (Sarah at Dive Key West, Inc. did a great job.) We were so very pleased with what we found at Merlin. I asked to see the room first which they gracefully guided me to and gave me the tour. The king room was very roomy and immaculate as was the bath. There was a big white comfy couch and shiny floor tiles. We had plenty of comfortable seating outside on the porch and on the grounds, with a sweet little swim spa. Our hostess/manager Linda was welcoming, funny and nice. We felt right at home during our entire visit. There is a sweet little restaurant across the street with excellent selections. (Sorry I can’t remember its name.)  There was pickleball about a mile away on weekend mornings and an AA clubhouse nearby on Virginia St. that I walked to, and a sweet little Episcopal Church close by that my husband walked to. I am a hotel/motel snob and I highly recommend Merlin Guesthouse.

From the first step into the office we were greeted warmly by Linda and given every bit of help with good places to eat (we loved Le Bistro for lunch). Kenneth, the next couple days, helped us with a place to rent bikes (Eaton’s) and they even delivered them. All the other staff were very friendly as well and kept our room spotless. We had a queen size guest room so it was not spacious. But we did not spend that much time in the room anyway! The pool is small (can’t do laps!) but it was certainly very relaxing surrounded by lush gardens. The breakfast each morning in these same lush gardens was delightful. Terrific coffee, juice, fruit, bagels, muffins and my favorite, croissants with ham and cheese hidden inside! They also had cereal, yogurt, hardboiled eggs. Plenty to eat for your morning meal. We ate at several places besides Le Bistro. Caroline’s had great salads and a terrific hamburger. Square One for a late dinner with just several appetizers was top notch. Our favorite though was Santiago Bodega, just down the street from Merlin. It’s a tapas place and so delicious. Dinner you need reservations, but for lunch you can usually walk right in.

If you want a nice getaway, relaxing in every aspect, the Merlin Guesthouse is the place for you. It is off Duval one street over but quiet and very convenient to most places, especially on a bike! We’d go again in a minute!

First time coming here and I had a wonderful stay. The staff were very polite and friendly. I’ll admit when I first arrived I was a bit aggravated not being able to find parking. I parked in the fifteen minute parking space and was told to leave my car there until a parking space could be found. Well my car ended up staying there the whole time but it was good for me. I felt special. Front row parking! I felt like I was VIP status. :) Anyway, thank you again for a wonderful stay. :)

We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom cottage style rooms.  It was beautiful.  It had all the necessary amenities, was exceptionally clean and had great access to Duval.  The breakfast was simple yet great out by the pool.  I would stay there again if I ever make it back to Key West.

The location of this hotel is very nice; you can also sit on the porch or the lovely courtyard. Breakfast was excellent! The room itself was a bit small with a little too much outside noise for my taste, but that’s okay. The inn doesn’t provide parking, so you have to find a place on the street.

I have nothing but superlative words to describe our stay at the Merlin.  Linda went way out of her way to accommodate our dates and room preferences, and our stay was comfortable and relaxed, surrounded by an understated serene beauty that was the perfect anecdote to our stressful professional lives in Chicago.

Our room was very well cleaned (and I am a fairly exacting customer in this area) and  the staff was most gracious in every way in terms of directions and sources of recommendations.

We will not be able to return soon enough!
