We stayied at the Merlin Guesthouse just for one night, and the overall quality of the hotel was excellent. Only the breakfast was not as satisfying while the rooms were huge and with fine furniture as well as clean.

I forgot to note that we had no issue parking and throughout our 4 day stay we saw the parking spots empty several times. Don’t let that stop you from staying at this hotel! It’s worth it!!

Some people say that Key West is not a family friendly vacation spot but our 4 night stay at Merlin Guesthouse with our 2 children ( 2 years and 8 mos) was the best family vacation ever!! We stayed in a queen suite, which was the most charming cottage that had fun and modern décor, and had a bedroom separate from the kitchen and bathroom…which is exactly what parents with small children are looking for. From the moment we arrived the staff was nothing but super welcoming and bent over backwards to accommodate us and our children. They brought out pool toys for them when we were swimming and cleaned our room according to our nap schedule…which just shows what excellent customer service they provide. The complimentary breakfast was one of the reasons we chose the hotel and it was awesome! They had little ham and swiss pastries from a local baker and various egg dishes, bagels, cereal, yogurt and fruit. The hotel also keeps fresh tea poolside which was perfect and refreshing in the Florida summer. They had on-point recommendations for dinner and things to do.

All in all, it was an awesome vacation and we couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. We keep raving and recommending our friends to go there. We live in Fort Lauderdale so it was the perfect weekend getaway and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Merlin Guesthouses again.

Plus, our 2 year old daughter loved Jordan, the local cat, and just yesterday she asked that we buy her a book about Key West so she can keep remembering it. A perfect family vacation for sure!

Having not seen the place before I got there, I was a little skeptical about what we were getting ourselves into.  Luckily, there wasn’t anything to worry about once we arrived.  The check-in process took about 5 minutes, and we were on our way to our room.

We stayed in one of the king suite rooms, which we thought was very nice.  The room was nice and clean, and the bed was very comfortable.  The area around our room was nice and private, not crammed in right next to other rooms.  The room had everything we needed (see fridge, decent tv, microwave, storage for clothes and stuff).  The whole complex has an authentic/historic feel to it, which is cool.  Something you may not get at a chain hotel type of place.  The location is perfect for getting anywhere on the island.  It’s within walking distance of anything you might need.  Anything you can’t walk to, you can easily ride a bike to.

The staff was super nice and helpful the entire time.  The cat that hangs around the place was also very nice.  We never had any issues at all with our room/stay, so we never needed to talk to the staff much besides check-in, check-out, and just talking to them about our stay throughout the week.

We did not have a vehicle during our time down there, but decided to rent bicycles for the week.  This is the way to go if you ask me.  You can get anywhere on the island with a bike, and you never have to worry about parking spaces or driving.  We even rode over to stock island a few times.

I would recommend checking out the bars down on Duval Street just because they’re so much fun.  Irish Kevin’s has some great entertainers there, namely New York Pauly.  The fishing is phenomenal if you’re into that type of thing.  We went out on a backcountry fishing trip, which was a lot of fun.  We used Key West Pro Guides to charter the trip.  Also, there’s  a great place to eat over on Sunset Key called Latitudes.  It’s pricey, but the views of the sunset there are awesome and the food is great.  We found that the Fort Zachary Taylor beach was the best one to hang out on during the day.  It’s larger for Key West standards, and the views and water are nice.  It is a coral based beach, so I would bring some water shoes or sandals to walk around in so your feet don’t hurt.

All in all, our stay was awesome.  Would not change a thing.  We’ll be staying at the Merlin Guesthouse again when we come down for the Key West half marathon in January!

Let me start and say my stay at Merlin Guesthouse was great. Trust me if I’m saying this then the stay was great. I’m a preferred member at all hilton hotels, so when I usually stay places that’s where they are. So this lets you know what im looking for in a room. I like a place I can walk in and it feels comfortable to me. Like lay my belongings down anywhere and can take my shoes off and relax. The Merlin Guesthouse gave me that key west feeling we were looking for.

I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend the Merlin Guesthouse to friends and again for myself. My check in and check out was great. Even before getting to the guesthouse the people I talk to when pre paying for my room were extremely nice. The best person there was Ms. Linda. I love that lady. :) She was so nice to us and gave us information whenever we needed it. We sat in the office at least twice 20 minutes each just talking to mrs Linda etc etc. She got me small things I need for my room and actually delivered them to us herself. The 2 days before leaving she told me she wasn’t going to be there when we left so she hugged us before we went out for the day. She really stood out to me.

Key West had some really nice people. I’m from NC so I always look for great customer service and people that are naturally nice and key west gave that to me. The best experience in key west was going stand up paddle boarding, freaking an amazing experience. Call SUP, front desk chick Brooke and out guide Brian. Sooooo nice . :)

But to end this review the place was really nice. And also we came down for a wedding so most of the rooms were filled with the wedding party and they had no complaints.  Thanks :)

We recently stayed at Merlin Guesthouse in August of 2014.  We were down in Key West for our daughter’s wedding.  We found Merlin Guesthouse to be the perfect place for our entire wedding party.  Every room was perfectly suited for each guest’s needs.  Some of the younger kids needed kitchens for their little family and my husband and I were more comfortable with a private upstairs room with our own hidden balcony.  The staff were amazing and very accommodating!! The only thing that I thought was unfortunate was that we were all finally there and congregating around the pool and someone else staying there (not with our party) called and complained because their window was overlooking the pool and they thought we were being loud.  We were finally all there and it was so great to get everyone together and then we were asked to leave the pool area.  I would have understood completely if we were being disrespectful, but we weren’t.  That is not anything that Merlin Guesthouse did wrong, that was just the way it went down.  I would stay there again in a heartbeat!!  It was awesome!!  I liked how we were only one block from Duval Street.  What a wonderful stay!

Thanks for a wonderful experience :-)

We’ve stayed for 2 nights at Merlin Guesthouse and had a fantastic time there. The hotel only is a block away from Duval Street. The staff was very nice, especially Kenneth who knows a lot about Key West and gives plenty of useful advices. We’ve stayed in room Nr. 5 which is small but comfortable and clean. We’d recommend this hotel to our friends and certainly consider to stay there next time we’ll going to Key West.

My wife and I stayed at the Merlin Guesthouse for our anniversary this year. We had an outstanding time.

The room we had was great. It has lots of character and was quite in spite of being directly next to another room. We loved the deck. It gave us the ability to people watch from our door step. The atmosphere of the pool and gathering area was outstanding. We loved the continental breakfast too.

We where a little surprised that there was no closet, but it really didn’t phase us. Parking was a little difficult at first, but we did find some parking on the back street behind the Inn.

Our stay at the Merlin Guesthouse was more than could be expected. All the amenities were way above anywhere we’ve stayed at before. The location was perfectly located to all the fun hot spots.  We will from now on stay at the Merlin Guesthouse.

I have to stay in Key West about every 3-4 months for business purposes. For my most recent trip, I booked my one night stay at the Merlin Guesthouse. I found the property to very nice, clean and comfortable. The staff was very welcoming upon check-in and very helpful in answering questions. I was even “upgraded” from Queen accommodations to King. This a great spot to stay if you plan on visiting Duval street, as it is only a short (one block) walk away. There is free wi-fi and complimentary breakfast (although i did not partake) included.

The only negative, was parking was very limited at the property itself. But, the staff member (think her name was Lee??) did make a point of showing me where I could park on the adjoining streets and even moved her car, freeing up a space on the street by the Merlin Guesthouse.

Overall, I would definitely return here on my next trip to Key West.
