Hi,
I am so happy to have a chance to write a review regarding our recent vacation to the Merlin Guesthouse.  Our stay was for seven days and what a glorious seven days it was!  We were delighted with the friendliness of the Merlin staff.  They were always helpful and wanted to make sure we were always having a good time.  Merlin Guesthouse was the perfect setting for a “Key West” vacation.  Our room was very open and bright and well maintained.  The breakfast every morning around the pool always started our day off on a relaxed, casual note.  I can’t wait to come back to the Merlin Guesthouse.  It was the best vacation I have ever been on.

My husband and I have been enjoying the Merlin for so many years.  Linda and Ken are always great and are always accommodating. Mr. Jordan is a major plus….such a cutie. If you should ever feel the need to change things up, do not touch room 20. That’ll forever be our favorite. The housekeeping staff is very attentive and friendly. The Merlin is our home away from home and we hope for many more visits to come. See you soon!

Wife and I were in Key West for a Wedding. Stayed Sun-Weds with y’all in room #12. Ken was great, helping us with everything from parking to cab rides. Cleaning and maintenance staff was very courteous and polite. Our room was very nice, glad we got the larger “queen” room with the additional sitting area upfront. Facility/accommodations were top notch, a block off Duval, very quite at night. Looking forward to our next trip to KW.

Thank you

What a great experience. Check-in was flawless and the front desk(Linda) could not have made it easier and she always made her presence known out and about the pool area, making everyone feel welcome. The breakfast  was great and very adequate. The pool, which we did frequent was a perfect temp. day & night. I would definitely recommend the Merlin Guesthouse to friends. Hopefully I will have another stay and would be looking forward to it. Thanks for a great three days.

This is our 3rd year in a row of staying at the Merlin. This year we also got married while in Key West.  Mary Simmons set a block of rooms up for us and was so helpful to us and our guests.  She let me have some wedding supplies shipped to her so I didn’t have to travel with them and they were waiting in our room when we arrived.  They surprised us with a painted coconut with our names on them to remember our big day.  That was awesome.  Of course the room was beautiful and all of the staff at the Merlin were great.  The continental breakfast helped get us and our guests started each day and we sure appreciated the pool in the middle of those hot July days.  All of our family, who have never stayed at the Merlin before, loved it.  Everyone’s room was comfortable and well attended to.

Thank you all so much for making our big day(s) relaxing and fun.  We will see you next year!

My partner and I come to Key West often, but this was our first time at Merlin’s. This has been our favorite place to stay by far! Our room was very comfortable and quiet. The pool area was very relaxing, and the continental breakfast was a nice bonus! We felt very welcomed by the friendly staff. The location is perfect! Scooter rentals were right down the street, a great little restaurant right across the street, and Duval just a few steps away. We WILL be back!

Ms. Fondriest,  I was going to send a letter before I received this e mail, that is how strongly my wife, friends and I felt about the way we are always treated by the staff at the Merlin.  My wife and I were residents of Key West for 12 years.  When it became necessary to leave Key West we knew we always wanted to return for lobster mini season.  We have a group of old friends that always accompany us.  We chose the Merlin simply because it had a room with a kitchen and had availability the year we moved. That was 5 mini seasons ago.

We have come back to the Merlin every year since and will return every year for the foreseeable future. The reason for this is the staff!  Especially Linda!  Each and every year any request we may make is satisfied with a smile.  My wife worked in the hotel business when we lived in Key West (the Hilton/Westin).  She has made the comment many times that we get better treatment at the Merlin than any hotel she has ever seen.  We are quite aware that there are many many choices for lodging in Key West but we always chose the Merlin because of the service and friendliness of the staff.

We said it ourselves, but please thank the staff at the Merlin once again for a great week.  We can’t wait for next year, that’s why we booked it already.  Thank you.

Merlin Guesthouse is very well located in old Key West; close to everything but quiet enough to have some rest in the beautiful garden. Our room was large and very well appointed, with a large balcony, large bathroom (former historic bedroom?) and view over the garden and whirlpool. The garden serves as very good setting for the breakfast (very good)/open air lounge area and the whirlpool. The pool itself is a big attraction; cool, refreshing and relaxing. Also a great place to socialize. Staff was very helpful and competent. All in all, a very good place to stay.

I would highly recommend staying at the beautiful Merlin Guesthouse hotel. My friend and I decided last minute to visit key west and after an exhausting day of traveling, we were welcomed on arrival with pleasant smiles and a cozy, clean room..what else could you ask for? The pool was amazing, with suncream and towels offered. Very small walk to the main Duval street and to all attractions within key west. Thanks to all the staff for an amazing time, we will be back very soon.

My girlfriend and I live in Ft. Lauderdale and we were looking for a weekend adventure and get-away in Key West. Since it was just the two of us and we wanted to be close to the action, we were hoping to find a little place near the historic area of Key West so that we could easily get around on foot during the day & night.

After browsing online for a couple of nights, we found that the Merlin Guesthouse still had vacancy. With a reasonable rate compared to other options, an excellent central location, and images of a very clean and well maintained property, we decided to book a smaller, Queen Economy room.

Before booking, we had read that parking could be a little tricky, but to be quite honest, I didn’t expect parking to exactly be plentiful on 4.2 sq. mi. Key West. Since we arrived around 10pm on a Friday night, we did need to look a little harder for parking, but we found safe (read: non-towing!) parking within walking distance on nearby Truman Ave (just past the Duffy’s).

Our room was small but not cramped, and was all a young couple needed for a weekend getaway. It was very well appointed and well maintained. The dark, natural wood floors were beautiful and the exposed ceiling beams provided charm. The four post bed was also a nice touch. Our queen economy room was one on the side “deck” facing the street, but noise didn’t seem to be an issue at all. If anything, the friendly property cat would typically welcome us on the deck.

The rest of the property looked very cozy and quaint. While the property is in the middle of the action, management does a great job of fencing and maintaining landscaping that provides plenty of privacy within the sanctuary that is the courtyard. Lush vegetation (I’m a big fan) provided a very tropical feel while the small pool and the surrounding deck chairs and a nearby hammock were very inviting. I regret that we weren’t able to truly enjoy this aspect of the property – since we were only in town Friday night to Sunday afternoon and, with a trip to Dry Tortugas on Saturday, we were always on the go!

The friendly lady at the front desk was very helpful and cheery when we checked in and checked out, unfortunately I didn’t catch her name. I feel that she could turn around anybody’s day just by talking to them for a few minutes. Housekeeping did a great job of keeping the room clean while being respectful of our belongings inside.

As for local attractions – I highly recommend the trip to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. Personally I’m always a fan of any adventure, big or small, and Fort Jefferson is a picturesque gem off of the beaten path. As for a restaurant – I feel that every visitor in Key West needs to have brunch @ Blue Heaven. If you’re a big breakfast person like me and you don’t make it, you’re not fully experiencing Key West!

I highly recommend the Merlin Guesthouse to anyone looking for a clean, warm, cozy place to stay while enjoying a get away in Key West. Whenever I visit KW again with my girlfriend, we will try to stay here again! Thanks for the great stay!
