We spent one night in a king suite and it was awesome. The next night we had to move to a queen room. Despite notice to the contrary, we were able to find parking. Location is excellent. Breakfast was good. Staff was persistent. Lady who checked us in was great — wish I remembered her name. We will be back.

My aunt and I stayed for four nights and remarked over and over how pleased we were with the accommodations.  The rooms are clean, pretty, and inviting.  The beds are comfortable.  The grounds fit perfectly with the tropical ambiance.  Super food for breakfast.  The other guests were ejnoying the pool.  It was quiet!

My wife and I were visiting family in Naples, FL and decided to take a quick trip down to the Keys.  We had originally planned to do some camping, but since it was the high season we weren’t able to find any decent spots.  We knew a hotel would be pricey, but decided to treat ourselves and book a place right in the center of Key West so we could walk/bike to everything we wanted to see.  Upon arriving, I went to check in as my wife attempted to find a parking spot.  We knew this might prove to be difficult as we had read that the Merlin did not have designated guest spots and parking on Key West is limited.  However, before I was finished checking in, my wife returned having found a spot right outside the hotel-definitely a benefit of arriving on a Sunday.  We left the car there for the entire trip.

The check in process went smoothly and the staff was extremely friendly. Our room was located just around the corner from the office and just off the street.  I imagine that it could get noisy during busy times, but we had no issues during our stay.  The wood floors in the room were really nice and we liked how the historic feel of the structures was kept while the necessary renovations were made to keep it feeling fresh and clean.  Everything in the room seemed new, classy, and modern.  The vaulted ceiling was an especially nice touch.  The pool was small and warm, but inviting.  We loved all the natural South Florida vegetation surrounding the patio.  The continental breakfast was just right and we enjoyed conversation with one employee, Kenneth, who told us about his time in Central America.  Everyone we met who worked at the hotel was extremely friendly and welcoming.

The location was perfect.  We walked to get food, and see the Hemingway house and just down the street to rent bikes to ride around the island and go to Smather’s Beach.  When it came time to leave we wished we could stay for the rest of the week.

Restaurants were OK, but being vegetarian we always hope for more options.  Having the Sugar Apple Health Food store right down the street was nice, but due to timing we were only able to get lunch there for the ride home-it was delicious.  We also enjoyed tacos at Amigos-great service.  The Cafe was a little disappointing.  A bit overpriced and they were out of some things/ got our order wrong.

All in all we had an amazing time and would definitely consider the Merlin Guesthouse for our next Key West adventure.

We had an excellent stay at Merlin Guesthouse.  I loved the service.  The staff was very friendly and accommodating.  The proximity to Duval was a major plus.  Our room was very clean.  I would highly recommend Merlin to anyone wishing to stay in Key West for a few days.

I stayed at the Merlin Guesthouse for two nights and I didn’t have a single problem.  The room was clean.  Whenever I needed something (and it wasn’t often because everything was there) someone was happy to get it for me.

When it came time to print my boarding pass, someone did it for me.  There was a nice Continental breakfast every morning. The staff in the office was extremely pleasant.

One day was cloudy and I asked that they make it sunny.  And they did.

That’s where I will stay the next time I’m in Key West.

The Merlin Guesthouse is a quiet oasis in the middle of busy Key West. The private grounds are beautifully landscaped with tropical plants, and there are lounge chairs, a hammock, and a small pool scattered around, perfect for relaxing. We opted for a Deluxe King Room and are so glad we did. Our room (# 11) was spacious, comfortable, and very quiet. There was a mini fridge and Keurig in the room. When you walk out of the grounds, you are just one block from Duval Street, and a 15 minute walk from Mallory Square and 10 minute walk to the Southernmost Point. The breakfast was sufficient and the staff were very nice and helpful with restaurant and jet ski tour recommendations. They even help you find parking when you arrive. We would definitely stay here again when in Key West.

This was the best place we stayed during our US trip. The room was of an excellent standard, the guesthouse is beautiful and in a great location, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Loved having breakfast in the garden and will definitely return if we come back to Key West.

A really good experience at Merlin’s. The staff were friendly and willing to direct me to attractions that I may have missed without local knowledge. I really like the vintage, historic appeal with all of the comfort of home. Parking in Key West  can be a real problem in the downtown area but at Merlin Guesthouse the Duval street attractions are a 2 minute walk away. I will be sure to include Merlin Guesthouse when making  future plans to visit the Keys.

We just stayed at the Merlin from 12/21 through 12/29 (2014).  My husband and I are both a “young 62″ and we have lots of vacations in our lives.  I lived in Key West as a young teen (2 years) but only returned to vacation 10 years ago.  This was our 3rd trip.  We will RETURN to the Merlin.  We arrived after 10 our 1st nite and immediately a lovely and friendly woman came to greet us and give us our key/show us the basics and welcome us!  Sorry but can’t recall her name but she made some nice suggestions about where to get a late nite bite.

Next morning we met Kenneth and he was awesome.  Everyday when we sat out on the patio for the perfect breakfast (you had just the right combination of not too heavy choices—LOVED that!) he was right there with suggestions, answering our many questions and being a wonderful hands-on manager.  He got us hooked up right away with great bike rentals.  We compared prices later as we passed various bike-rental stands and he definitely got us a great deal!  We do not drive a car while there and we zoomed all over the island (usually wearing bathing suits or shorts as the weather was phenomenal)—going to FANTASTIC restaurants (Louie’s Backyard on C.Eve was a blast!!!  Mini monsoon made for a dramatic rush off the lower tiers inside but Louie’s had it all together and accommodated everybody immediately/smoothly into the festive foyer/living area with cozy tables/settings.  We were lucky enough to be farthest out on the awning-covered area where clear-plastic protective shades were undrawn as we sat with our dinner and watched the amazing lightening show!!!  Pouring rain suddenly stopped just as we were about to leave bikes and call a cab.  We pedaled back to Merlin just in the nick of time—4 minutes later the downpour revived.  It was great!)

We LOVED our room (the one with the big patio facing the pool)—everything was clean, comfortable and quiet!  My husband was inspired to buy us a new bed after returning from K.W. because he realized that he could be sleeping better after resting so well at the Merlin.

We were lucky enough to catch the local Christmas House Tour, see all the lighted houses from our bikes and checked out some new activities (to us) such as the ECO CENTER, the oldest house in Key West and the Women’s Club House (is that what it is called?).  Repeated some of our favs (Butterfly Sanctuary, Dante’s bar/pool/mojitos/cracked conch, El Sibonay) and loved going back for the 2nd time (this trip)to Santiago Bodega. Fun spot!

The staff at the Merlin were ALL so nice, professional and did great jobs!  The cleaning ladies were so cute and helpful if we needed extra towels or whatnot.  We just LOVED the location of the Merlin Guesthouse and were super excited to be introduced to “Off the Hook” (just kitty-corner) where we had lunch one day and dinner another—everything was EXCELLENT!

So I am working on trying to plan going back to Key West for next Christmas but hoping to stay at least a week longer….!   Thanks for helping to make this my FAVORITE VACATION & Christmas ever!!!   SINCERELY and I REALLY MEAN THAT!!!–Nancy
