Thank you for reaching out to me to invite me to share my comments on the Cypress House. I am a travel writer and I also had a travel agency for years, so I’ve had the opportunity to stay in a variety of hotels and inns throughout the world. We very much enjoyed our time at the Cypress House. I share some of these comments only because I love your approach to upgrading and branding historic Key West properties and I hope that they will provide some additional information that I think will make the experience more complete.
It is a terrific location–easy access to the action, but peaceful enough at night, so that we could sleep well. Chris and the other staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 11 and needed the porch swept and some cushions for the chairs and they took care of it right away. Beach towels were always plentiful and I appreciated not having to sign some sort of log every time I needed one. Even though we need not always take advantage of the continental breakfast or Liming, we certainly enjoyed them when we did.
I understand that you have put quite a bit of money into upgrading the property and it certainly shows, especially in the bathrooms. It is wonderful to have a sparkling new and modern bathroom in a charming older hotel, which is one of the reasons I choose the Cypress House. I love the cool blue and green color scheme, too. Quite soothing after a day at the beach. A few things that would make the room more inviting and accommodating would be some more art (it feels a little sparse), a full-length mirror, and a hand towel holder near the basin so you wouldn’t have to put the towel on the actual basin where it can get wet. Another nice addition would be some sort of welcome letter that would include information such as what restaurants deliver so you can enjoy lunch by the pool, etc. I have found that this personal touch in a small and charming hotel like yours is quite welcome.
I would say that housekeeping was a little spotty. I don’t think the bathroom mirror was cleaned more than once nor the floors swept often (coming to and from the beach things can get a little sandy/messy).
If you can make these few little upgrades, funds permitting, I really think that it would make the Cypress House an even more desirable place to stay in Key West. We would most certainly return.
Thanks to Chris and everyone for their hospitality.
