My husband and I spent our first stay in Key West at the Cypress House. We could not have asked for a better place to stay.  The room was very nice. The staff was super nice every day. The daily breakfast was always tasty and we had something different each day we were there. The location was perfect for walking to all the activities. I just can’t express how happy I am that I managed to pick such a wonderful place to stay. I can’t wait until we can make a return trip.

THANK YOU CYPRESS HOUSE!!

I admit I’m biased: I’ve stayed at The Merlin Guesthouse since 1988 and have stayed there almost exclusively since 1992. (The other times were Key Lime Inn and Lighthouse Court, also HKWI properties.) Just so you know where I’m coming from, I don’t stay at an inn because it has satin sheets or HBO in the room. I’m not there to hang out at the hotel. I want a comfortable bed and pleasant amenities. If you want 5-star, white glove service, Key West, for all is casual appeal, has plenty of those choices. At the Merlin you will find pleasant, rustic, comfortable B&B-style accommodation and charm. More important, a staff who remembers you and is universally approachable and friendly. You’ll leave feeling like part of the family, and indeed you will be. (If you’re a cat person, be sure to say hi to Jordan. He lives on the property, and he’s part of the family too.) There are a wide variety of rooms, from small and simple (the porch rooms, for example) to some truly lovely suites. The pool has thoughtful touches: baskets with paperbacks and sunscreen, and in the afternoon, iced tea is set out in the breakfast area. Now for the negatives, just so you know this isn’t a total sell job (and hey, family members can critique each other honestly, right?): 1) If you’re a light sleeper, avoid the front porch rooms. Mopeds on Simonton buzz by at all hours. There are identical or similar rooms on the back porch. But, if you plan on stumbling home drunk (and why not, it’s Key West) and wild horses couldn’t roust you, no worries on the front porch side!) 2) Some people criticize the pool, and I certainly remember when it was bigger. It’s not exactly a lap pool; it’s more of a very large hot tub (there is a water jet timer) but again, in this place and setting, maybe you can eschew your inner Michael Phelps/Summer Sanders for a bit and just chill in the bubbles or the still, serene water. 3) The mattress in Room 22 is not up to the usual HKWI standard. It’s slightly caved in the middle and slants to one side. However if there are any other imperfections here, I can’t think of any, and I’ve been looking for 20 years, several times a year. (I live 200 miles north. Don’t hate.). I hope this is helpful to you. Cheers.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chelsea House from 5/26 to 5/30.  We were assigned to Room #1 next to the lobby, which we especially appreciated with the heavy luggage we had.  The housekeeping crew did a nice job, and brought us extra towels upon request.  The only negative would be the shampoo provided. I’m happy we had brought our own shampoo.  I would suggest switching brands.  Bryan (the evening desk clerk) and the morning desk clerk (I forgot her name) were great.  They suggested restaurants, water activities and bicycle rentals – and made reservations for us.  We enjoyed our breakfasts near the pool – a good variety and nice presentation.  We also appreciated the free and convenient parking for our rental car.  This was our first time in Key West and we will definitely visit again – and stay at one of your properties again.

Check in process was quick and informative. Our room was small and quaint and extremely clean. The best part of our stay was the continental breakfast sitting under the trees getting to know the guests and enjoying the delicious food. Overall the trash gentleman was the friendliest and helpful during our stay.

We checked in on May 24 and out on May 28. I honestly can think of nothing to suggest that could’ve made our stay better. The staff (I believe the lady at the front desk was Melissa) was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was timely and efficient. The rooms were clean, up to date, comfortable, etc. The breakfast was nice, our little patio area by the hammock was peaceful, everything was just lovely. I would HIGHLY recommend the Key Lime Inn to anyone looking to stay in Key West. And all of this for the rate made it even better. Y’all think of things a guest needs and don’t charge or offer any unnecessary things. Can’t thank y’all enough. We had an AWESOME time :)

What more can I say!  I was a little concerned that because it was just myself and my 17 year old daughter traveling we might feel a little awkward because it seemed like a couples place.  Not so at all, it’s an anybody who’s there to have a great time kind of place!  Lovely rooms, lovely garden, lovely pool, and lovely breakfast’s in the garden!  The staff in the office will go out of their way to make sure you stay is comfortable and pleasant!  We plan to return as soon as we can!

Great family-friendly property. Located a block from upper Duval Street, it was a perfect location for me to bring my mother-in-law for the first time with my 11 year old son. Upon arrival, the staff at the Merlin Guesthouse provided everything we needed and they were always quick to help or provide a service whenever we asked.  We stayed Unit 21, the two-bedroom/1 bath cottage. It has a fully equipped kitchen with a full-size fridge, stove and microwave. The one bathroom was functional, but it would have been ideal to have an additional 1/2 bath in the unit. Things to know when selecting this unit; 1) Simonton St. can be noisy at times, so the bedroom closest to the street will hear the cars and the trash truck in the morning, 2) This is historical location, so it does have a historic, vintage look/feel and things may not work perfectly, but if it doesn’t, the staff is right there to repair everything ASAP, 3) This unit has one of the only parking spots “on-property”, which is great with the limited parking in the area, 4) The local cat, Jordan, is very sweet. We knew he was there and we brought some cat treats from home to share with him (don’t tell his parents!). He stopped by every morning for his daily treat. 5) Did I mention that the staff is awesome? If not, let me say it again. They are AWESOME! I would highly recommend this property to any family looking to stay in the middle of it all, with local friends in a comfortable, home-like environment. Thanks to all at the Merlin Guesthouse and I look forward to coming back with my husband the next time!

We stayed at the Chelsea House for 3 nights while in Key West in May.  The rooms were very nice and the staff was terrific.  After our first night we asked to change to a larger room.  We were accommodated right away at no extra charge.  The outside patio areas were perfect for lounging and enjoying the weather.  The proximity to Duval Street was a bonus, as was the included breakfast.  Special thanks to Bryan, who checked us in and took great care of us during our stay.  We would definitely stay at Chelsea House again and recommend it to friends and family.  Thank you.

I stayed in the king suite and it was worth it! I really enjoyed the scenery and waking up in the morning and eating breakfast with my boyfriend on the front porch. It was very nice and private. The room felt cozy and warm. We didn’t move our car once! Everything is walking distance which was great And convenient.

We stayed at Merlin Guesthouse on May 2014. We loved the location; right in the middle of the island and a block from Duval street.  The staff was super friendly and the breakfast was delicious! !!!!
