We had traveled from the UK, and drove to Key West from Miami, the drive down to Key West in a convertible was exhilarating.  Lighthouse Court is a fabulous place, a great find, totally relaxing and friendly, beautiful island style quality accommodation.   Breakfast was excellent, a huge choice and served poolside.  Front Desk staff were a credit to the property, especially Robbie, very helpful and knowledgeable for places to visit and eat.  Key West is a beautiful part of the world, it’s delightful, and we hope to return again one day.

I have stayed at the Merlin several times now and it is by far the best bang for your buck and my personal favorite of the Key West-y hotels. The rooms are updated and clean with tropical touches and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. The pool area is quaint and relaxing, and the location is perfect, one block off Duval, so not too noisy and literally in the middle of Old Town so it’s a 5-10 min walk to everywhere you’d want to go. If you are looking for an authentic, charming Key West hotel then the Merlin will not disappoint you.

Accommodations at Merlin Guesthouse could not have been better.  We would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to enjoy a quiet alternative to the run-of-mill hotel stays.  We stayed in a 2-room guest cottage with private patio, coffee bar, nice seating area and large bathroom.  The housekeeping staff kept it spotless.  A very nice breakfast is available near poolside.  The splash pool is a great place to meet other travelers.  Kenneth was most helpful.  The tours of Truman’s Little White House, Fort Jefferson, and Hemingway’s House should be on your list of things to do.  We dined at Seven Fish, Kelly’s, and Rooftop.  All were outstanding.

Our recent visit had a fast check in process. We arrived early and received a call when our room was ready, earlier than check in time. The bed was very comfortable with super soft sheets, pillows and comforter. The air conditioning and fridge worked excellent. The room was clean and all the electronics were up to date. It was nice to have a breakfast as included with the room. We will definetly come back as we like the location of the hotel and it has every thing we needed for our stay.

Our stay at the Cypress House was very nice. Loved the fact that it was built by a ship builder and kept true to the era in which it was built. A must for history lovers!  The grounds were well kept and pool/garden areas were beautiful. Room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. For me it was the little things they do that make your stay memorable. A complimentary cocktail hour with a different drink and appetizer provided nightly, breakfast in the morning, pool towels, map of island with attractions and as a girly girl my toiletries were replaced daily :) The staff could not have been more helpful with directions, suggestions or a helping hand, even on a super busy weekend in Key West!  We had a great time and will be back again! Thank you all!

My girlfriend Jewel and I stayed at the Chelsea House b/c all of the rooms at the Pier House, where all of our friends were located, were booked. However, we were very happy and thrilled at the aesthetics of the property and the privacy we were afforded. The room was very clean and the pool area was tranquil. We will definitely stay here again on our next visits. The place was very warm and memorable, not to mention close to some great restaurants. DCP

We had chosen the Cypress House mostly for the location. I had read reviews about the hotel and we weren’t disappointed. We had arrived via the Key West express. It was only a few blocks to the Inn, so we walked it. When we arrived we were greeted by Alexander. He greeted us with a big smile and was very professional. We had a short wait for our room to be ready, so we were shown to the pool area and invited to relax and cool off.  No sooner than we changed and jumped into the pool, our room was ready. We climbed to the 3rd floor (via the scenic route) by the back stairs. The room was much bigger than I thought it would be. Also it had a large modern bathroom. We where very happy we stayed at the Cypress House. We wish we could’ve stayed more than one night. We were not able to sample breakfast, but did enjoy the pulled pork sliders w/mojito sauce provided during happy hour. Our stay was enhanced by the help and guidance we received from Alexander. He was great. He pointed us to where to go and where to eat. We will return one day and highly recommend Cypress House.

My husband and I spent our first stay in Key West at the Cypress House. We could not have asked for a better place to stay.  The room was very nice. The staff was super nice every day. The daily breakfast was always tasty and we had something different each day we were there. The location was perfect for walking to all the activities. I just can’t express how happy I am that I managed to pick such a wonderful place to stay. I can’t wait until we can make a return trip.

THANK YOU CYPRESS HOUSE!!

I admit I’m biased: I’ve stayed at The Merlin Guesthouse since 1988 and have stayed there almost exclusively since 1992. (The other times were Key Lime Inn and Lighthouse Court, also HKWI properties.) Just so you know where I’m coming from, I don’t stay at an inn because it has satin sheets or HBO in the room. I’m not there to hang out at the hotel. I want a comfortable bed and pleasant amenities. If you want 5-star, white glove service, Key West, for all is casual appeal, has plenty of those choices. At the Merlin you will find pleasant, rustic, comfortable B&B-style accommodation and charm. More important, a staff who remembers you and is universally approachable and friendly. You’ll leave feeling like part of the family, and indeed you will be. (If you’re a cat person, be sure to say hi to Jordan. He lives on the property, and he’s part of the family too.) There are a wide variety of rooms, from small and simple (the porch rooms, for example) to some truly lovely suites. The pool has thoughtful touches: baskets with paperbacks and sunscreen, and in the afternoon, iced tea is set out in the breakfast area. Now for the negatives, just so you know this isn’t a total sell job (and hey, family members can critique each other honestly, right?): 1) If you’re a light sleeper, avoid the front porch rooms. Mopeds on Simonton buzz by at all hours. There are identical or similar rooms on the back porch. But, if you plan on stumbling home drunk (and why not, it’s Key West) and wild horses couldn’t roust you, no worries on the front porch side!) 2) Some people criticize the pool, and I certainly remember when it was bigger. It’s not exactly a lap pool; it’s more of a very large hot tub (there is a water jet timer) but again, in this place and setting, maybe you can eschew your inner Michael Phelps/Summer Sanders for a bit and just chill in the bubbles or the still, serene water. 3) The mattress in Room 22 is not up to the usual HKWI standard. It’s slightly caved in the middle and slants to one side. However if there are any other imperfections here, I can’t think of any, and I’ve been looking for 20 years, several times a year. (I live 200 miles north. Don’t hate.). I hope this is helpful to you. Cheers.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chelsea House from 5/26 to 5/30.  We were assigned to Room #1 next to the lobby, which we especially appreciated with the heavy luggage we had.  The housekeeping crew did a nice job, and brought us extra towels upon request.  The only negative would be the shampoo provided. I’m happy we had brought our own shampoo.  I would suggest switching brands.  Bryan (the evening desk clerk) and the morning desk clerk (I forgot her name) were great.  They suggested restaurants, water activities and bicycle rentals – and made reservations for us.  We enjoyed our breakfasts near the pool – a good variety and nice presentation.  We also appreciated the free and convenient parking for our rental car.  This was our first time in Key West and we will definitely visit again – and stay at one of your properties again.
