From the first step into the office we were greeted warmly by Linda and given every bit of help with good places to eat (we loved Le Bistro for lunch). Kenneth, the next couple days, helped us with a place to rent bikes (Eaton’s) and they even delivered them. All the other staff were very friendly as well and kept our room spotless. We had a queen size guest room so it was not spacious. But we did not spend that much time in the room anyway! The pool is small (can’t do laps!) but it was certainly very relaxing surrounded by lush gardens. The breakfast each morning in these same lush gardens was delightful. Terrific coffee, juice, fruit, bagels, muffins and my favorite, croissants with ham and cheese hidden inside! They also had cereal, yogurt, hardboiled eggs. Plenty to eat for your morning meal. We ate at several places besides Le Bistro. Caroline’s had great salads and a terrific hamburger. Square One for a late dinner with just several appetizers was top notch. Our favorite though was Santiago Bodega, just down the street from Merlin. It’s a tapas place and so delicious. Dinner you need reservations, but for lunch you can usually walk right in.
If you want a nice getaway, relaxing in every aspect, the Merlin Guesthouse is the place for you. It is off Duval one street over but quiet and very convenient to most places, especially on a bike! We’d go again in a minute!By: Kathy Westerholt on May 1, 2014
