I suddenly drove to Key West on a whim having been surprised to read it was the southernmost point in the US. I had just come to the US from the southernmost point in Europe where I expected to retire but cannot and decided I should symbolically then touch down in the counterpoint in the US for no other reason than I had never been in Key West as well.
I arrived in early evening after driving 8 hours and pulled into a large driveway as I realized I was coming to an end and discovered the historic inn. I like historic places and went to see if there might be a room in the inn for me. To my surprise and pleasure, I met a nice young man named Humberto who answered every question, engaged in a nice intelligent conversation with me bothering him, and booked me in for 3 nights instead of my intended 1 night stay in Key West.
I enjoyed the room and porch and pool (breakfast could be fuller) and other employee helpfulness and wandering in Key West and looking at the southernmost point really within the base. I now enjoyed learning that I even apparently saw the owner talking about the nice porch being built while I was in the pool watching with interest the job being done on a historic place as I am building something on a custom job. A good job being done with consideration for the swimmers.
I wish you all continued success and while I do not think I would return to Key West per se, you all made my one visit quite memorable and I appreciate the efficiency and efforts.
Oh – I recommend Duffy’s T-bone steak that your person recommended – I had been looking for such a steak for some time and it was wonderful and service was pleasant. Also, a small place around the corner which of course I cannot remember the name of off of the main streets with wonderful made cole slaw and mouth watering shrimp cocktail.By: Frances Davis on June 6, 2017
