The name of the hotel, ‘Albury’, is a common family name among Bahama Conchs – Key West residents who originated from the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas and resettled to Key West in the 1800’s. There are many Albury descendents living in Key West today. An earlier generation of Alburys’ lived where the hotel in now located.
The hotel was created by joining several adjacent “conch houses” into a peaceful retreat of renovated guestrooms, quiet courtyards, and garden pathways. Guestrooms are fitted with the latest in modern hotel conveniences including flat-screen TV’s, modern bathrooms, compact refrigerators, and some have wireless internet service. The hotel is a harmonious blend of old and new; it retains the charm of early Key West architecture and the ambiance of casual, island style.
