Outdoor Adventure

Key West has several beaches scattered along the southern shore of the island. The largest being Smather’s Beach, located in New Town near the airport.  Beaches in Old Town include Higgs Beach at the southern end of White Street, South Beach at the southern end of Duval Street, and Ft Zachary Taylor at the western end of Southard Street.  Old Town beaches are accessible by walking or biking from any Historic Key West Inn. Key West Harbor

Also known as the Bight, or the Seaport;  Key West Harbor is the base of operations for charter boats, yachtsmen, and many other exciting water sports such as Key West scuba diving.  You will also find shopping, restaurants, and nightlife.  The Ferry Terminal is located there, with daily service to Ft Meyers.  The harbor is also the place to catch the ferry to Dry Tortugas National Park.  Albury Court is located just two blocks from the harbor.

The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory

A great stop for small kids and grown-up ones, the Butterfly Conservatory has an extensive exhibit on butterflies and a large conservatory where you walk through an exotic tropical landscape filled with live butterflies. 1316 Duval Street.

Smathers Beach

A half mile stretch of sandy man-made beach. Restrooms, ample parking, concession stands, chair rentals, bike paths, picnic tables, volleyball nets, and watersports rentals: jet skiing, parasailing, and windsurfing. On South Roosevelt Boulevard.

Higg’s Beach

Wide, sandy beach with a long wooden pier. Restroom facilities, covered picnic tables, Salute! Restaurant on the beach, playground, chair rentals, rafts and water sports rentals. It’s at the end of Reynold’s Street.

Fort Zachary Taylor

An 87 acre State Park with a pre-Civil War Fort. Wonderful sunset views. One of the best beaches in Key West, though a bit rocky. Public restrooms, food/drink kiosk, chair rentals, picnic tables and BBQ’s. There is an admission charge. Entrance through Truman Annex at Southard Street.
